The Natural Dye Studio is a family company, located in sunny Suffolk.
Their ethos as a company is to provide the best quality luxury yarn as possible in as enviromentally freindly and as ethically way as possible.
Yarns
All their yarns are sourced through British suppliers. Blue Faced Leicester which they use is farmed in the UK and is sold to the British Wool Marketing Board. The Natural Dye Studio is licensed by the BWMB to carry their woolmark, which certifies that the origin of our wool is the UK. Mohair used is also UK grown.
All exotic yarns used apart from silk are grown and spun in a family owned mill in Peru.
Dyes
All dyes and mordants used are sourced through a UK supplier.
The Natural Dye Studio only use plant materials, such as wood chips, chopped roots and leaves and do not use natural dye extracts
The Natural Dye Studio only use cream of tartar and alum as mordants. Alum (a rock salt) is slightly abrasive in its crystal form however totally harmless when dissolved in water. Cream of tartar is used in cake baking!
The Natural Dye Studio do not use any of the metal mordants such as tin, copper, chrome and iron, some of which are very toxic and all of which should not be poured into the water system.
